Personal Statement

I am a theoretical physicist, specialized in quantum and classical optics. I graduated from University of Rome La Sapienza in 1995 and there I got a PhD in physics in February 2000. I worked at ENEA and ISS in Rome (2000-2001), and at Leiden University (2001-2007). In 2008 I joined the former Max Planck Research Group (now Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light-MPL) in Erlangen. In 2009 I was awarded an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship for Experienced Researchers (1.5 years). From November 2010 to October 2015 I was Akademischer Rat auf Zeit at Friedrich-Alexander-Universitaet Erlangen-Nuernberg (FAU) and group leader at MPL (Leuchs' division). I was W2 Professor (temporary replacement) at FAU from April-July 2012. In November 2016 I received the degree "Dr. habil. rer. nat." (Habilitation), from Friedrich-Alexander-Universitaet Erlangen-Nuernberg. On 10th April 2017, I received the “Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale alla funzione di professore universitario di prima fascia, settore concorsuale 02/B2” (Italian Habilitation). From April the 1st 2017 to September 30th, I was W3 professor at Friedrich-Alexander-Universitaet Erlangen-Nuernberg.
